June - Off With Their Heads - Zinnias
Share
The zinnias are about 10" tall and it's time to pinch them, many had a single flower already blooming, but I can't let that distract me - I must complete my mission.
I count up 3-4 leaves and snip off the center. This will postpone them blooming for 3 weeks or so, but it will also promote side shoots and many more blossoms.
Here's a little preview of what's coming. I think I might cull the yellow one... but we'll see.

I have quite the variety of zinnias I'm growing this year, many focused on the blush/pink shades - but then I also have Benary's Giant Wine growing - I want to see the rich burgundy color - I think it will pop with the other flowers in the garden.
New to me are Dawn Creek mix, Basket of Flowers Dearest Elle and Cupcakes Pastel shades. I have another Cupcakes Pink and I'm growing out my seeds that I saved from Open Pollinated Precious Metals, Victorian Wedding and Alpenglow - would be cool to see a nice surprise in there.
