Gifts for the Garden Lovers in Your Life
Share
A few years ago, I decided to stop buying "stuff" for friends and family and started giving something more personal: preserves from my own garden. Jams, pickles, salsa, even homemade condiments. At first, my parents and siblings gave me that polite smile and nod. But now? They look forward to the new creations and old favorites every year. My brother-in-law, a firefighter, loves my canned tomato soup. He takes it to work for those long 24-hour shifts.
I'm not saying everyone needs to make homemade gifts, though that would be amazing. But if you're looking for thoughtful ideas, I recommend supporting local farms and small businesses whenever you can. Think independent gift shops, cozy bookstores, or your neighborhood farm offering gift certificates or flower subscriptions for the coming season.
Of course, it's okay to shop big-box stores or online retailers, we can't source everything locally. But when I do buy gifts, I choose items that help people live better and tread lighter on the planet. Things like:
- Gardening tools and supplies,
- Preserving essentials for those who love canning
- Cookbooks and gardening guides that support the farmers and chefs who wrote them
These gifts aren't just useful. They connect us to the land, the seasons, and the people who make our communities thrive.
Here are some of my favorite go-to items that I use and love:
